Topic:  “Creating a Treasure Box” of Memories…Embracing Your Time as a Caregiver with Your Loved One(s).

 TOPIC OUTLINE

SECTION I 

  • Our target audience:  Children of  seniors, caregivers today
  • You now have a place to go for answers, and an understanding of roles and responsibility to make the latter years the best that they can be.
  • Preparing the family
  • Eliminating the scramble

 

SECTION II 

  • What do you think of when you imagine a treasure box?
  • Anticipation
  • Going thru items/Maybe something special
  • What do you fine?  Special/OK/Discard
  • Sort out
  • What to do then?
  • Share/keep
  • Empty all gone
  • What is left?

 

SECTION III 

  • Creating your own treasure box of memories…. not necessarily physical but can be a
  • part of this time…
  • What treasures will you uncover?  What will be most meaningful?  What is lost forever? What will you share?  What will be left when your loved one is gone?
  • Taking the time…being there
  • Listening, talking, watching
  • Intentional/non-intentional. Creating a comfortable dialogue
  • Motivators:  music, photographs, dancing, family members
  • Food
  • Places
  • Stimulators:  animals, children, games/puzzles, reading, playing instruments, weather, flowers, scents, television programs, movies, even a piece of clothing
  • Write, record, photograph…keep samples,
  • How to:  walking, driving, just visiting, changing environments…go to baseball games, restaurants, shopping mall, church, play, a garden or a zoo, an aquarium.
  • Document the moments.

 

SECTION IV  

  • What happens?
  • Emotional feelings….
  • Laughter, cry, sad, happiness, anger, frustration, disappointment…cover the emotional spectrum.
  • Coming to a complete understanding and awareness.   Maybe even a place of peace.
  • Benefitting both you/family/caregivers but also the senior making their elder years of more value.
  • When all over…look back
