Republicans divided over whether millions of Americans should lose government-subsidized coverage

(European Pressphoto Agency)   Quizzed about the fate of millions of Americans who depend on the Affordable Care Act and its insurance protections, President Trump invariably offers bold but vague assurances. “I want to take care of everybody,” he said in an interview with ABC News this week, a pledge GOP lawmakers and Trump’s nominee for Health secretary have echoed in recent weeks. But as Republicans scramble for a strategy to repeal and replace the healthcare law, they are reckoning with a fundamental question the party has never settled: whether to foot the...

If we could shrink the earth’s population…

If we could shrink the earth’s population to a village of precisely 100 people, with all the existing human ratios remaining the same, it would look something like the following.  There would be: 57 Asians 21 Europeans 14 from the Western Hemisphere, both north and south 8 would be Africans 52 would be female 48 would be male 70 would be non-white 30 would be white 70 would be non-Christian 30 would be Christian 89 would be heterosexual 11 would be homosexual 6 people would possess 59% of the entire world’s wealth and all 6 would be from the United States. 80 would live in substandard housing 70 would be unable to read 50 would suffer from malnutrition (ONE)1 would be near death; (ONE)1 would be near birth; (ONE)1 (yes, only 1) would have a...

Ho Ho Happy Holidays!?

Well, you may be “Ho Ho Happy”this holiday season….but a lot of elderly Americans are alone and downright lonely.  When the days get shorter, and colder most aging adults spend more time inside and do not venture out unless absolutely necessary, causing isolation and sometimes severe depression.  This holiday season, lets all make an extra effort to go check on that elderly neighbor, family member or friend if not just to say “hello”.  And, if you really want to be a part of Santa’s A team…bring a holiday short story to read, or some cookies, a few decorations or even some hot chocolate, a plant or a few carols to sing.   Sometimes just the smallest of efforts are so greatly appreciated.  And, I can bet...

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Wishing you and your family a wonderful, healthy and Happy Thanksgiving!  May we all be thankful for our many blessings and gifts life has to offer as well as the opportunity to live in America… the greatest country on Earth! There is not a day that goes by that I don’t spend a few moments saying right out loud “thank you, thank you for….” and then I go thru my thoughts for the day.  As we embrace this joyous holiday season let us be more than kind to one another, help those in need and cherish the memories of  so many who have passed thru our lives and are no longer with us.  And, above all love deeper and care stronger to all who touch us each and every day.       by

Charles Schulz Philosophy

The following is the philosophy of Charles Schulz, the creator of the “Peanuts” comic strip. You don’t have to actually answer the  questions. Just read the e-mail straight through, and you’ll get the point. Name the five wealthiest people in the world. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners. Name the last five winners of the Miss America. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.  Name the last half dozen Academy Award winner for best actor and actress. Name the last decade’s worth of World Series winners.                 How did you do?  The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies....
